Empire 8 Quintet Represented in 2022-23 Winter NACDA Learfield Directors' Cup Standings

Utica University, Hartwick College, Medaille University, Nazareth College and St. John Fisher University represent the Empire 8 Conference in the final Winter 2022-23 LEARFIELD Directors' Cup Standings. A total of 274 Division III institutions have scored points throughout the fall and winter seasons. Final 2022-23 standings will be announced after the spring sports season is concluded.
 
The LEARFIELD Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.
 
Utica University leads all Empire 8 institutions and is 64th nationally with 163 points, having won its first NCAA Tournament game in football, while advanving to the round of 16. The Pioneers won a program-record 10 games and earned its first NCAA Tournament appearance. During the winter, Utica advanced to the round of 32 in men's basketball after tying a program record with 23 victories, while its men's hockey program advanced to the national quarterfinals and won 25 games.

St. John Fisher University moved into a tie for 92nd nationally with 125 points. During the winter, both the St. John Fisher men's and women's basketball teams advanced to the NCAA Tournament after claiming Empire 8 Championships. Both teams advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament after winning first round games, as the women finished 26-3 overall and the men were 22-8.

Nazareth College has 50 team points. The Golden Nazareth competed in the 2022 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championships after winning its second straight league title, while its women's hockey team advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season after winning the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) title in double overtime.

Hartwick College and Medaille University have 25 points apiece. Hartwick won the E8 title and competed in the 2022 NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championships, while Medaille won the Empire 8 men's soccer crown in its first season as a league member and competed in the 2022 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championships. In addition, the Hartwick women’s tennis team won the 2022 Empire 8 Championship and will compete in the NCAA Championship Tournament in May, 2023.
