Hartwick College President Darren Reisberg will serve on the NCAA Division III Diversity and Inclusion Working Group, as part of a four-year term that runs through January 2026.

The NCAA Division III Diversity and Inclusion Working Group’s charge is to assess the current diversity and inclusion landscape within Division III, evaluate current initiatives, and propose next steps (e.g., resources, new initiatives, policies, etc.) to the membership.

“Growing up, I had a hard time squaring what I knew to be my sexual orientation with my participation and passion for sports," said Reisberg, who was named Hartwick’s 11th president in August 2022. “For this reason, I'm so honored to be part of, and actively engage in, a Working Group committed to eliminating barriers -- and promoting inclusion -- for those who may not see themselves represented (or sufficiently represented) in sport, whether as athletes, coaches, administrators or otherwise. This work is so important, and I commend the NCAA for making it such a high priority.”

Division III, in partnership with the NCAA’s Office of Inclusion, provides educational resources, initiatives and programming, which enhances the foundations of a diverse and inclusive culture.  Inclusion continues to be an important aspect of intercollegiate athletics, and the Division III governance structure collaborates with its 450 member institutions and 42 conference offices to support their diversity and inclusion goals.

?“Division III is fortunate to have an exceptional asset with President Reisberg serving on the Diversity and Inclusion Working Group,” said Empire 8 Commissioner Chuck Mitrano, who also serves as the Division III Championships Committee Chairperson. “His expertise and accomplishments in the area of equity and inclusion, and skill set as a leader, will greatly benefit the division’s important work.”

A recognized authority in public policy and strategic organization, Reisberg is an accomplished leader with two decades of encouraging equity and innovation in higher education and K-12. Previously, he was the vice president for strategic initiatives and deputy provost at the University of Chicago, where he managed the Office of the Provost’s operations, administered the faculty governance system, and drove strategic planning and fundraising efforts.

In other roles at the University of Chicago, President Reisberg served as the vice president and secretary of the university. He also was the first executive director of the University of Chicago’s Institute of Politics, which is committed to fostering in students a passion for public service, meaningful dialogue and active engagement in our democracy.

From 2019 to 2022, Reisberg served as the governor-appointed chair of the Illinois State Board of Education, which oversees K-12 policy for over 850 school districts.
