TROY, NY – St. John Fisher University's Jason Norsen slammed three home runs and drove in seven to lead the Cardinals to a 22-4 won over Russell Sage College on Friday afternoon. After today's results, Fisher moves to an overall record of 12-10 on the year and 7-0 in Empire 8 play.
Fisher started the scoring early, with James Murphy hitting a sacrifice fly to left field, Noah Campanelli scoring in the top of the first. Immediately after, Norsen homered to right center, driving in Nick Lemire. Getting right back to it in the top of the second, Campanelli singled through the left side, bringing home Luke Duffy. Right after, Lemire singled through the left side, with Jack Migliore scoring. Later in the inning, Murphy hit a sacrifice fly, with Campanelli scoring. The final run of the inning came from Lemire stealing home, the score 7-0. The Cardinal's next run of the game came in the fifth inning, with Norsen leading off with a homerun to left field.
The top of the sixth saw Fisher score seven times, starting with Norsen singling up the middle, driving in two runners. Later in the inning, Norsen advanced home after Jake Meeker was walked. Right after, Ben Lavery advanced home after Migliore was walked. Campanelli then doubled to right center, bringing home all three runners. The Cardinals scored seven more times in the top of the seventh, with Norsen homering to left field, bringing home Murphy. Later, Meeker singled to center field, with Dominic Guccia scoring. Next up, Migliore doubled to left field, driving in two runs. A few batters later, Murphy doubled to left field, bringing in two more runners. The game ended after seven innings, with the Cardinals winning 22-4.
Starting for Fisher, Benjamin Huckans pitched the first 5.0 innings and picked up the win. Huckans faced 20 batters, striking out two, walking three, and only giving up two hits and three runs. Jason Wall pitched the final 2.0 innings. He faced nine batters, striking out one, walking one, and giving up one run and one hit.
Norsen finished the day 4-for-5 with three home runs, seven RBI and four runs scored. Campanelli and Murphy each contributed four RBI, with Campanelli reaching base six times, going 5-for-5 with a walk.
Next up, the Cardinals continue their series against Russell Sage. On Saturday, Apr. 8. the two teams face in a doubleheader, with the first game beginning at 11 a.m.
