The Empire 8 Conference announced its 2023 Empire 8 Baseball Championship All-Tournament Team on Wednesday, May 17. Junior catcher Ethan Perry of St. John Fisher University was named the Empire 8 Tournament Most Valuable Player after leading the Cardinals to their third straight league title and fifth in program history.
Perry enjoyed a tremendous tournament, batting .636 (7-for-11) with a home run, double, three runs scored and four RBI. He also caught all 27 innings during the tournament for the Cardinals and threw out 1-of-2 baserunners attempting to steal a base. On Thursday, Perry homered in the opening win over Russell Sage and followed that up by going 4-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI in the 11-6 win over Utica University Friday in the winner’s bracket. He added two hits and an RBI in the championship clinching win over Russell Sage in the title game Saturday. Perry was one of four St. John Fisher student-athletes to earn All-Tournament Team honors.
