ASHLAND, VA – The St. John Fisher University softball team saw their season come to an end on Friday in an 11-3 loss to host Randolph-Macon College in NCAA Regional play on Friday. The Cardinals had their season come to an end with a 28-14 record, while Randolph Macon improves to 39-9.
Fisher fell behind in the opening inning, trailing 6-0 before coming to bat for the first time. They did chip away at the deficit immediately. After Madi Rose and Clare Boegel reached base, Mari Spitz send a ball over the centerfield fence for a three-run home run to cut the deficit to 6-3. That would be as close as the Cardinals would get as the Randolph-Macon offense added two runs in the second inning, one in the fourth and two more in the fifth inning.
Rose was the lone Cardinal to have a multi-hit day, going 2-for-3. Amalia DeMartino, Allie Klonowski and Kelly Cournoyer also had hits for Fisher.
Kayla Davis was 3-for-3 with a home run, three runs scored and three RBI for Randolph-Macon. Jessica Pittman was also 3-for-3 with two RBI.
Yesterday, St. John Fisher opened play in the NCAA Regional with a 3-2 loss to Ramapo College.
The Cardinals advanced to the NCAA Tournament after winning their eighth Empire 8 Championship last weekend.
