ROCHESTER, NY – Longtime Nazareth softball head coach Jack Carpenter has retired as announced by Athletics Director Pete Bothner on Monday. Nazareth is making the head coaching position full-time and a national search is currently underway.
Carpenter vacates the head coaching position after compiling 350 career wins. He spent six seasons as the head coach of RIT from 2001-06, winning 139 games before taking over the Nazareth head coaching duties part-time in 2007. In his 17 years at the helm of the Golden Flyers, Carpenter was responsible for 211 wins for the Purple and Gold. Carpenter helped re-introduce the sport of softball at Nazareth in 2007 after it had previously been a sport at the College from 1986-1991.
Carpenter's most wins came in 2016, when the Golden Flyers had 20. In 2022, the Golden Flyers earned their first-ever victory in the Empire 8 Championship after defeating Russell Sage, 4-3. He guided the Golden Flyers to five Empire 8 Softball Tournament appearances.
Carpenter was voted the Empire 8 Coach of the Year in 2017 after guiding the Golden Flyers to a 19-15 record and fourth seed in the conference tournament. During his tenure, Carpenter produced two Empire 8 Pitcher of the Year players in Emily Daciw in 2022 and Kelly Kocher in 2010.
Carpenter was head coach at RIT as an Empire 8 member from 2001-06. Carpenter won the inaugural Empire 8 Championship at RIT in 2001, leading the Tigers to a program-best 32-9 record and lone trip to the NCAA Tournament. He was a three-time E8 Coach of the Year at RIT in 2001, 2002 and 2005 and mentored Shari McNamara, the 2001 Empire 8 Rookie of the Year and 2002 and 2003 Empire 8 Player of the Year.
