St. John Fisher University senior Noah Campanelli and junior Patrick McGuire, earned 2023 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and D3baseball.com All-American honors. Campanelli was an ABCA/Rawlings First Team All-American, while McGuire was a fourth team selection. Both student-athletes were second team All-America selections by D3baseball.com.
The ABCA All-America team was first recognized in 1949 and now includes nine divisions: NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA Divisions I, II and III, Pacific Association Division, and high school. ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams were first recognized in 2007. The D3baseball.com selections Players were nominated for these awards by the Sports Information Directors at the various schools.
Campanelli has earned countless accolades this Spring for the Cardinals, who won their third straight Empire 8 Championship in 2023. He was named the Empire 8 Player of the Year for the second straight season and garnered D3baseball.com and ABCA/Rawlings Region III Player of the Year accolades. He was also a first team All-Region selection for both organizations.
Campanelli led all Empire 8 student-athletes with 83 hits, 60 runs scored, 51 stolen bases, 19 doubles, seven triples, 140 total bases, a .435 batting average, .502 on-base percentage, .733 slugging percentage and a 1.235 OPS in 45 games played. In addition, he is fourth in the Empire 8 with eight home runs and 44 RBI. In 18 regular season E8 contests, Campanelli hit .507 with 34 hits, 28 runs scored, 11 doubles and 20 RBI. He also maintained a 1.399 OPS. Campanelli’s 51 stolen bases are an Empire 8 single-season record, while he is second nationally in that category. In addition, he is ninth nationally in hits and ninth in total bases. Campanelli is the fifth student-athlete to be named a two-time Empire 8 Player of the Year.
McGuire, a four-time Empire 8 Pitcher of the Week, enjoyed a tremendous 2023 season. He has appeared in 13 games, having started 10 contests and is 8-1 on this season with a sparkling 2.21 earned run and 1.02 WHIP in 61.0 innings, while opposing batters have hit just .164 against him. McGuire finished with one complete game, while striking out 50 batters. In league play, McGuire went 6-0 with a 0.75 ERA and 0.69 WHIP in 36 innings, allowing just three runs, while opponents hit just .117 against him. He was the sixth different St. John Fisher student-athlete to earn Empire 8 Pitcher of the Year honors.
