Graduate student Brenna Johnson of the Nazareth University women's indoor and outdoor track and field team was named to the 2023 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America® Cross Country/Track and Field NCAA Division III Team, which recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the track and in the classroom. Johnson was a second team selection.
The 2022-23 Academic All-America® At-Large Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the track and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. In order to be eligible for both All-District and All-American consideration, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically, hold a 3.30 cumulative GPA or above and be a starter or important reserve for their respective teams.
Johnson who has a tremendous 4.0 grade-point average as a physical therapy major, has earned countless accolades during her career for the Golden Flyers. One of the most decorared student-athletes in E8 track and field history, Johnson was the 2019 Empire 8 Indoor Rookie of the Year and 2019 E8 Outdoor Rookie of the Year. In addition, she was named the 2021 E8 Indoor Track Athlete of the Year and 2022 and 2023 E8 Indoor Field Athlete of the Year. Johnson also excelled on the outdoor stage as well, earning 2022 E8 Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year honors. She was a five-time E8 Athlete of the Championship meet honoree and won 10 indoor championship events and seven outdoor events.
On the national stage, Johnson earned All-American honors in the long jump at the 2022 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships and also competed in the event at the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship and 2023 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship.
Johnson becomes the third CSC Academic All-America selection from the Empire 8 in 2022-23, joining fellow Golden Flyer men's soccer standout Cuneyt Vardar, Nazareth men's volleyball senior Seth Terzo and Noah Campanelli from the St. John Fisher University baseball program.
