The Alfred University, Elmira College, Hartwick College and St. John Fisher University women’s volleyball teams earned the United States Marine Corps (USMC)/American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2022-23 season.
A total of 1,333 teams from NCAA, NAIA, Two-Year Colleges and high school organizations earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2020-21 season. A total of 212 Division III women’s volleyball programs received Team Academic honors.
Elmira garnered the presigious accolade for the 11th straight season and 16th in program history. St. John Fisher now has nine straight AVCA All-Academic Team honors and 15 overall. Alfred earned its sixth Team Academic Award, while Hartwick garnered its first honor in program history.
“The commitment our coaches make to help their student-athletes pursue the best versions of themselves is evident in the academic accomplishments highlighted today." said AVCA CEO Jaime Gordon. "Achievement on the court has always been closely tied to success in the classroom which is reflected by the number of championship programs honored.”
The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale or 4.10 on a 5.0 scale.
