A total of 63 student-athletes from seven Empire 8 institutions were named Easton/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Scholar Athletes for the 2022-23 season. In addition, St. John Fisher University, Nazareth University, Alfred University and Elmira College earned Team GPA honors.
Nearly 8,300 student-athletes were named 2022-23 Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes, the highest total in Association history. NCAA Division III had 2,369 student-athletes earn a 3.5 grade-point average or higher for 2022-23.
St. John Fisher led all Empire 8 programs with 14 student-athletes honored, while Keuka College had 13 players earn the prestigious academic award. Nazareth had 10 student-athletes honored, while Alfred (7), Elmira (7), Russell Sage College (7) and Utica University (5) had individual representation.
St. John Fisher, Nazareth, Alfred and Elmira were among 125 Division III teams honored. The 2023 Empire 8 Champion Cardinals of St. John Fisher posted a 3.68 team GPA, which was the 11th best in all of Division III. Nazareth recorded a team GPA of 3.572, while Alfred recorded a 3.32 GPA and Elmira was right behind at 3.28.
The team rankings and individual honors were submitted by member head coaches and recognize the academic prowess of softball teams across the Association’s membership categories.
