Senior wide receiver
JJ Laap of the SUNY Cortland football team was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week on Tuesday, Sept. 19. He is the second E8 student-athlete to earn D3football.com weekly accolades in 2023, joining teammate
Mike Baloga, who earned the honor last week.
Laap, a native of Stony Brook, NY, earned Empire 8 Co-Offensive Player of the Week accolades on Monday. He caught five passes for 250 yards and two touchdowns in Cortland's 38-35 loss to 22nd-ranked Susquehanna on Saturday. Laap caught an 80-yard TD pass on Cortland's first play from scrimmage as well as an 89-yard scoring catch in the second quarter. His 250 receiving yards are the third-highest single-game total in school history as he now holds the first and third spots on that list.
Lapp has 14 catches for 432 yards and four touchdowns in just three games this season. He is currently second nationally in receiving yards and yards per reception (30.9).
Cortland is on bye this week. Non-conference play concludes for Empire 8 programs this weekend, as league play begins on Sept. 30.
