The Empire 8 is celebrating “Officials’ Appreciation Week” along with all other Division III and Division II conferences throughout the 2023-2024 academic year. This year marks the second year of this initiative adopted by the Division III Commissioners Association (DIIICA) to recognize and thank conference officials across all sports.
Officials Appreciation Week will be celebrated during the winter season from January 22-28 and again in the spring season from April 1-7. The fall celebration was held the week of October 2-9, 2023.
The commitment of Empire 8 officials and referees to safe, fair and competitive contests is a critical part of the student-athlete experience.
“Officials are a valued stakeholder of Empire 8 athletics," said Empire 8 Executive Director Chuck Mitrano. "They have a thankless job and put countless unseen hours into preparing to provide our student-athletes and teams with the highest level of service. We are fortunate to have such dedicated and honorable professionals. It’s critical that fans, coaches and student-athletes treat them with respect."
Officials’ Appreciation Week is one of numerous initiatives that are being implemented as part of the
Division III Commissioners Association (DIIICA) Strategic Plan for Collegiate Officiating that was created as a result of the
