PITTSFORD, NY – Junior Sidney Tomasso and senior Claire Kruszka made St. John Fisher women's basketball history on Friday, both scoring their 1000th career points as the Cardinals beat Sage College, 67-38. The Cardinals extended their winning streak to 13 games overall and move to 9-0 in league play and 16-2 in 2023-24.
Both milestone baskets were made in the fourth quarter, first by Tomasso just seconds into the quarter and then by Kruszka less than two minutes later. They are the 24th and 25th thousand-point scorers in the program's history. Timeouts were called after their scores to allow them to be celebrated by the crowd and their teammates.
In the game itself, the Cardinals led 13-8 after the first quarter but steadily increased their cushion through the game, going into the half up 27-15 and then outscoring the Gators 27-10 in the third quarter to leap to a 54-25 lead.
Kruszka led the Cardinals with 17 points and also had five assists and three steals. Tomasso followed her on the scoresheet with 14 points and seven rebounds.
On the defense, freshman forward Joleen Lusk totaled 18 rebounds, the most of her career so far. The Cherry Valley Springfield graduate also notched three blocks on the night.
The victory is the Cardinals' 13th straight and keeps them undefeated in Empire 8 play. St. John Fisher has now won 40 straight games in E8 regular season play dating back to the 2021-22 season.
They'll put that undefeated conference record on the line on Saturday, Jan. 27, when they host Hartwick College. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 P.M.
