MORRISVILLE, NY – SUNY Morrisville football scored twice in the third quarter of Saturday's Empire 8 action against visiting Alfred University, out gaining the Saxons 24-14 to earn the league win on Drake Field in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
- Host SUNY Morrisville football scored twice in the third quarter Saturday, while holding Empire 8 opponent Alfred University scoreless, leading to a 24-14 league win on Drake Field in Morrisville.
- Morrisville put together a 263-yard rushing game on the ground, accumulating 333 yards total offense on the day, as they limited Alfred to 258 total, including a 106-yard running effort.
- Junior quarterback Christopher Stancarone (Levittown, N.Y.) led all ball carriers with 125-net yards and a touchdown, adding another 70 through the air as he completed 6-of-14 passes, including touchdown strike.
- Isaac Sylvain (Schenectady, N.Y.) added 94 yards and a rushing score to the Mustangs running total, while Sean Perrin (Wallkill, N.Y.) posted 37-yards on seven carries.
- Quamel Jarvis (Rochester, N.Y.) caught four for 33 yards, with fellow tight end Ed-Son Jean-Baptiste (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added a catch for 27-yards and a touchdown.
- Evan Salvaggio (Geneseo, N.Y.) recorded 10 stops on the defensive side of the ball for Morrisville with lineman David Kelley (Macedon, N.Y.) added nine, including a sack for a loss of three yards and a forced fumble.
- Chris Kelly completed 12-of-28 passes for 152 yards and a touchdown on the day, throwing an interception that was collected by Mustangs defensive back Scotty Howard (Binghamton, N.Y.).
- Kelly also added 59-yards and a touchdown in the running game, with running back Max Freeman adding 51-net yards to the Saxon totals.
- Dion Anderson led the receiving unit with five catches for 81-yards.
- Nicholas McLetchie-Goldman had 10 total tackles for Alfred to lead the defensive unit, while Roque Santiago added nine.
- Morrisville's defense set the tone early in the contest, forcing Alfred's first turnover of the day with just under four minutes to go in the opening quarter as Omar Jarvis (Rochester, N.Y.) stripped the ball from Alex Coffee falling on the recovery on the Alfred 29-yard line.
- After hitting Sylvaine for a short 10-yard gain, Stancarone found a hole through the middle for a 16-yard scamper down to the Alfred three, before the sophomore running back capped off the short drive with a three-yard rush up middle for the Mustangs touchdown score.
- Owen Cole (Maspeth, N.Y.) had the point after to give the hosts the 7-0 lead.
- Alfred responded on the ensuing drive, with Kelly throwing the 11-yard strike to Carmine Hoag just over two minutes into the second.
- The Saxons forced the Mustangs to turn the ball over on downs on the following drive, but the Morrisville defense reciprocated halting the Alfred efforts on the hosts 30-yard line.
- Morrisville regained the lead on the first possession of the second half, taking advantage of good field position after an Alfred penalty and two short rushing plays.
- On second down, Stancarone followed the left side of the line and found the hole to race along the near sideline 47-yards for the touchdown score, putting the hosts ahead by one score just three minutes in.
- Alfred threatened to score on their following drive attempt, but Kelly was picked off by Howard on the Mustangs two, as he attempted to hit Anderson in the end zone.
- Morrisville's defense held Alfred to just eight yards on their possession inside the seven-minute mark, forcing the turnover on downs on their own 34-yard line, setting up a second score by the hosts for the quarter.
- Moving the ball to the Alfred 27, Stancarone found an open Jean-Baptiste in the middle of the field on fourth down, before the senior raced past the Saxon defense to the right corner of the end zone for the touchdown score and 21-7 lead.
- In the fourth, Alfred moved the ball into Morrisville territory, but again the defense put up a front and Kelley forced the Kelly fumble that was recovered by Camerin Camacho (Cape Coral, Fla.) on the Mustangs own 42.
- Morrisville was able to drive into the red zone before Cole kicked a 29-yard field goal for the three-possession lead with 10 minutes to go in the contest.
- Alfred was able to put one final score on the board with under a minute to go to cut the lead to 10, but the onside kick attempt landed in the arms of Anai Brake (Carteret, N.J.) to secure the win for the Mustangs.
