Tessa Grover was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) National Division III Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2024 for games played Oct. 7-Oct. 13, 2024.
Grover, who was named the Empire 8 Women's Volleyball Player of the Week on Monday, excelled for Nazareth as the Golden Flyers moved to 4-0 in Empire 8 play with a pair of four-set wins. Grover earned her second and third consecutive triple-doubles in two big conference wins over Russell Sage and Hartwick, as the Golden Flyers improve to 4-0 in conference play. Overall, Grover hit .362 while averaging 4.0 kills, 5.0 points, 4.63 assists, 3.0 digs and 1.1 blocks per set. On Friday in a four-set win against Russell Sage, she had 17 kills, 18 assists, and 12 digs. Less than 24 hours later, Grover tallied 15 kills, 19 assists, 12 digs and six blocks in a four-set victory over Hartwick.
She is second among all Division III student-athletes with five triple-doubles this season. Grover, the 2021 E8 Rookie of the Year and a three-time All-E8 first team selection, is third in the E8 this season, averaging 3.44 points per set, 4.32 points and a .310 hitting percentage. She is also averaging 3.97 assists 2.41 digs, 0.65 blocks and 0.51 service aces per set in 2024.
Grover is the first E8 student-athlete to earn the prestigious AVCA Division III weekly honor this season abd garnered the honor for the second straight season, previously having won on Oct. 3, 2023. She is Nazareth’s second woman to win the AVCA National Player of the Week award, joining for Empire 8 Player of the Year and All-American
Christa Downey on Oct. 28, 2002.
Nazareth (9-8, 4-0 Empire 8) is right back in action at home on Friday evening at 6 p.m. against Empire 8 rival Elmira College.
