Russell Sage College first-year goalkeeper/defender
Olivia Brand (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) earned National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III Defensive Player of the Week Honorable Mention accolades on Wednesday, Oct. 2 for games played Sept. 24-Sept. 30.
Brand, who was named the Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, contributed on the field and in goal for the Gators last week. She scored her first collegiate goal in a 7-0 shutout win over visiting Elmira on Sept. 27. Brand made the first start in goal of her career the following afternoon at RPI, stopping 20 of 22 Engineers shots to keep Russell Sage in the game in an eventual 2-0 non-conference setback.
Earlier in the season, Ella Buchanan of SUNY Brockport and Sam Lewis of SUNY Geneseo sweept NFHCA weekly accolades on Sept. 4.
Russell Sage is right back in action today, on the road to face Vermont State Castleton in a non-league contest that starts at 4 p.m.
