TROY, NY – No. 1 seed Hartwick College earned its second Empire 8 Championship in the last three seasons, defeating No. 2 seed SUNY Geneseo by a score of 5-0 in the title match from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Saturday, Oct. 19. Hartwick earns the Empire 8's automatic bid into the 2025 NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis Championship, which begins May 9.
Hartwick junior Lily Vanuga was named the Empire 8 Women's Tennis Championship Most Valuable Player, while senior Colleen Marsh was named the Empire 8 Torchbearer Award Winner for Academic Excellence.
Hartwick improves to 12-1 in 2024, while SUNY Geneseo falls to 8-2.
The Hawks made quick work in doubles action to seize the momentum. Ryann Ashby and Gianna Leggieri (second doubles) in addition to Samantha Lantzy and Lily Vanuga (third doubles) got the Hawks right on the board identical 8-2 wins. Hartwick’s first doubles duo of Alexandra Krasinska and Phoebe Olson rallied from an early deficit to pick up an 8-4 win over Samantha Rava and Rachel Malloy.
In singles action, Hartwick won the first set in four of six matches. Down the lineup, the Hawks earned the decisive points, as Vanuga earned a 6-3, 6-3 win over Malloy at fourth singles, while Lantzy won the fifth points by defeating Talia Wutz, 6-2, 6-3 at third singles.

Format: Dual match is played until decision (5 points) Three doubles matches are followed by six singles matches. No-ad scoring for both singles and doubles matches. Singles matches will play two out of three sets. Doubles play eight pro set with a twelve-point tiebreaker at 7-all.
