Seniors Lift Hartwick to Win over Houghton; Hawks Clinch 2024 Empire 8 Women's Tennis Regular Season Title

Hartwick Earns at Least Share of Third Straight E8 Regular Season Championship and will host Empire 8 Semifinals and Championship Oct. 18-19

ONEONTA, NY – The Hawks celebrated Senior Day in style with a 9-0 win over the Houghton University Highlanders all while clinching at least a share of the Empire 8 Regular Season Championship with one match remaining on their schedule. Hartwick cliniched the top-seed and will host the semifinals and championship match of the 2024 Empire 8 Women's Tennis Championship on Oct. 18-19.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
  • The Hawks picked up three dominant wins during the doubles round, highlighted by an 8-2 win at third doubles by senior tandem Colleen Marsh (Marcellus, N.Y.) and Jess Waldman (South Glens Falls, N.Y.).
  • Fellow senior, Ryann Ashby (Malta, N.Y.); joined by partner Gianna Leggieri (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) picked up an 8-3 win in the second doubles spot.
  • Up 3-0 headed into the singles round, the Hawks once again made quick work of the Highlanders.
  • Alexandra Krasinska (Pine Island, N.Y.) and Phoebe Olson (Jamestown, N. Dak.) rebounded from tight matches yesterday to turn in two straight set wins at  first and second singles respectively.
  • After taking a win at third doubles, Marsh returned to the court in the sixth singles spot and made light work of her Houghton opponent taking the match 6-0, 6-0.
  • Rounding out the singles round wins for the Hawks was Samantha Lantzy (Valatie, N.Y.) at third singles, Lily Vanuga (Springville, N.Y.) at 4, and Leggieri in the fifth spot.

The Hawks wrap up their regular season campaign against St. John Fisher on Saturday, October 12 at 1 PM on their home courts at Wilber Park.
