Empire 8 Trio Set to Compete at 2024 NCAA Division III Soccer Championships

St. John Fisher men's soccer, along with the SUNY Brockport and SUNY Geneseo women's soccer programs will represent the Empire 8 in the 2024 Division III Soccer Championships, which begin on Saturday, Nov. 16.

ST. JOHN FISHER MEN
The Cardinals (11-4-5), who will be making the program's second NCAA Tournament appearance, face host Babson (14-1-6) at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, at Hartwell-Rogers Field in Babson Park, Ma. The Beavers, No. 11 in Division III, have made the NCAA Tournament six years in a row and 32 times overall. They won their fourth New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) title over the weekend. 

The Cardinals beat Elmira 2-0 on Saturday to win their third Empire 8 tournament title, earning the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Fisher goalkeeper Christian Burkhart, a graduate student, recorded his NCAA-leading 13th shutout of the season and sixth in a row. 

Wesleyan (7-4-5) faces the University of Saint Joseph (14-4-3) at 1 p.m. on Saturday in the other first-round contest hosted by Babson. The winners will play at 1 p.m. on Sunday in the second-round game. 

SUNY BROCKPORT WOMEN
The SUNY Brockport women's soccer team has earned an at-large bid into the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championships and will travel to University of Scranton for first round action where the Golden Eagles will take on Wesleyan University on Saturday, November 16. The contest is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. Host Scranton will face Marywood at 1 p.m. Saturday with the two winners meeting at 3 p.m. Sunday.
 
The Golden Eagles are making just their second NCAA Tournament appearance in program history and their first appearance since 2006 when they won the SUNYAC Conference Championship to earn an automatic bid.
 
Brockport, the Empire 8 Conference regular season champions, heads to the NCAA Tournament with a 15-1-2 overall record. The Golden Eagles went 10-1 in Empire 8 play during the regular season, earning the No. 1 seed and hosting rights in the conference tournament. The 2024 edition of the Golden eagles has set a new program-record with 16 shut outs and ranks fourth nationally in goals against average. 

SUNY GENESEO WOMEN
The SUNY Geneseo women's soccer won the 2024 Empire 8 Championship and earned the league automatic qualifier into the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championships and will travel to Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) for first round action where the Knights will take on the host Engineers at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 16. Claremont-Mudd Scripps will face Colby College in the second semifinal at 1:30 p.m. Saturday with the two winners meeting at 1 p.m. Sunday.
 
The Knights are their sixth NCAA Tournament appearance since 2017 and enter the tournament with a 13-4-3 overall record, having finished 8-1-2 in E8 play to claim the No. 2 seed in the league tournament. Geneseo defeated Houghton, St. John Fisher and Nazareth to win the Empire 8 Championship in its first season as a league member.
