CAMBRDIGE, MA – The SUNY Geneseo women's soccer team took on No. 3 M.I.T. in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 16, and fell by a score of 3-1. The Knights gave the Engineers a battle with the score tied at 1-1 at halftime, but ultimately could not pull off the upset as their season comes to an end with a record of 13-5-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • M.I.T. got on the board early, scoring in the ninth minute of action. However, Geneseo had the answer as Abby Foster evened the score at 1-1 less than two minutes later. Foster was able to score from a very tight angle outside the box, perfectly placing the ball to the far post and over the goalkeeper.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Emily McLouth and the Knights defense held strong for the remainder of the half, keeping the score knotted at 1-1. McLouth picked up multiple diving saves to keep the Engineers off the scoreboard.
  • In the second half, M.I.T. quickly put the Knights on their heels, with back-to-back goals in the first five minutes of action. The Knights offense saw two shots go off the crossbar in the half as they pushed to even the score, but couldn't complete the comeback and fell, 3-1.
QUICK FACTS:
  • Foster tallied her 10th goal of the season, ending the season with the team lead in points at 30 on 10 goals and 10 assists.
  • McLouth was stellar in net for Geneseo, picking up 13 saves in the contest.
  • The Knights have reached the NCAA Tournament six times in the last seven years that the tournament has been held.
