The Empire 8 Conference announced its 2024 Women’s Volleyball Championship All-Tournament Team on Monday, Nov. 18. Sophomore middle blocker Ana Gutman of St. John Fisher University was named the Empire 8 Tournament Most Valuable Player after leading the No. 2 seeded Cardinals to their fifth league title in the last six seasons last weekend.
Gutman slammed 38 kills on a remarkable .516 hitting percentage, to go along with 10 blocks and six digs, as St. John Fisher won three E8 Tournament matches to win the 2024 title and earn the Empire 8’s automatic berth in the NCAA Division III Women’s Volleyball Championship Tournament. Gutman began the tournament with 14 kills on a .619 hitting percentage and four blocks in a four-set win over No. 7 SUNY Geneseo in quarterfinal action Tuesday. On Thursday, Gutman added 13 kills, while hitting .478 with two digs and a pair of blocks in a four-set win over No. 6 seed SUNY Brockport. Gutman concluded her tremendous tournament on Saturday, hitting .450 with 11 kills and four blocks in the championship match against top-seed Nazareth University, including the match-clinching, third-set swing that secured the sweep and league title.
