PITTSFORD, NY – The St. John Fisher University women's volleyball team will face Marietta College in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament at 7 p.m. Thursday at Marietta's Ban Johnson Arena.
The Cardinals, 21-8 overall, beat rival Nazareth 3-0 on Saturday in the Empire 8 title match to clinch the program's fourth NCAA Tournament berth. Marietta (23-1) enters the tournament ranked No. 8 nationally.
Fisher, which has won nine consecutive matches, claimed its fifth Empire 8 title in the last six seasons with its sweep of Nazareth. Head coach Kelly Greapentrog, who has seven 20-plus win seasons in her career (including this season), has led the Cardinals to each of its NCAA Tournament appearances and conference titles.
Marietta lost its first match of the season on Saturday, falling 3-1 to Otterbein in the Ohio Athletic Conference championship. The Pioneers will be making their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
The winner of Thursday's match will face Franklin & Marshall or Illinois Wesleyan in the second round on Friday.
