No. 2 seed SUNY Geneseo and No. 4 Nazareth University advanced in semifinal play during the 2024 Empire 8 Women's Soccer Championship on Wednesday, Nov. 6. Geneseo scored two second half goals to defeat No. 3 St. John Fisher, 2-0, while Nazareth advanced in penalty kicks, 6-5 over top-seed Brockport after the two teams played to a scoreless draw in regulation and overtime.
SUNY Geneseo (12-4-3) will host Nazareth (11-5-3) in the 2024 Empire 8 Women's Soccer Championship match on Saturday, November 9 at 1 p.m. from College Stadium. The Golden Flyers are attempting to win their fourth straight E8 title and 14th league championship, while Geneseo is looking for its first league title in its first season as an E8 member. The Knights recently made NCAA Tournament appearances in 2021 and 2022.
Geneseo and Nazareth recently met on Oct. 16 from College Stadium with the Knights pulling out a 2-0 win. Juliette Frischman scored a pair of second half goals just under 12 minutes apart. Nazareth goalkeeper Annika Monfort stopped seven shots in the loss.
Saturday's winner earns the Empire 8's automatic berth into the 2024 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship Tournament, which begins Nov. 15-16.

Delaney Malone saved the eighth penalty kick and
Lauryn Obey sealed the win on the final PK to help No. 4 Nazareth advance past No. 1 Brockport in the Empire 8 Semifinals after 110 minutes of play coiuld not produce a goal. Nazareth is now 11-5-3 overall, while Brockport falls to 15-1-2.
After falling 5-0 during the regular season to the Golden Eagles, the Nazareth squad was out with something to prove on Wednesday. Following a scoreless regulation and overtime, the contest headed to penalty kicks.
Malone was strategically entered into the net for penalty kicks after
Annika Monfort played the entire game and made five saves.
Brockport opened up with a goal, before
Grace Palczewski converted. A make by Brockport on the next attempt and a miss by Nazareth put the Golden Eagles in the driver seat. The top-seed notched each of their first four kicks, while Nazareth's
Tatum Overton and
Haley Dennison made good on their attempts to make the score 4-3 heading into the fifth round of kicks.
Brockport's fifth kick went high to breathe life into Nazareth's team and
Shannon Sgombick made her attempt to send the game to extra kicks.
The teams traded goals on the sixth and seventh kicks with
Kiyomi Mastro and
Camryn Schiavitti banging in their attempts.
That set up the dramatic eighth round with Brockport's shot to Malone's right being saved on the ground. Obey was up for the pressure-packed shot, nailing a bar-down attempt to seal the victory.
The first half was very even with each team generating three shots and three corner kicks. In the 17
th minute Nazareth had a decent opportunity off a corner kick, but Palczewski's shot was blocked.
Brockport picked up its level in the second half, generating seven corner kicks but the Nazareth defense and Monfort were up for the task. Monfort made four saves in the second half and one in overtime to push her career shutout total to 34.

The SUNY Geneseo Women's Soccer team took down St. John Fisher 2-0 on Wednesday evening.
Abby Foster scored two second half goals to help the Knights advance to the Empire 8 Championship. St. John Fisher fell to 11-6-2 on the season.
Senior midfielder Lindsey Mathews shot a freekick from the top of the box that rang of the crossbar in the 26th minute. The ball bounced around the box, but the knights could not capitalize on the scoring attempt.
First-year forward Kristen Sheperd had a breakaway attempt caught by St. John Fisher goalkeeper Avery Byrnes in the 37th minute. The Knights went into the half-tied at zero with the Cardinals.
The Knights broke the deadlock minutes out of the half. Fifth-year forward Juliette Frischman sailed in a cross that found junior forward
Abby Foster's foot and sailed into the back of the net in the 47th minute.
Fisher's Riley Grimm rattled the crossbar in the 58th minute from a pass attempt from a Cardinals free kick.
Geneseo extended their lead in the 64th minute on another goal from Foster. Fifth-year midfielder Lindsey Clar found Foster on a lobbed through pass slotted into the bottom right corner of the net. The Knights's defense held strong and was able to hold Fisher scoreless through 90 minutes.
