SUNY Geneseo standouts Katrina Clare and Hailey Roethel Named 2024 NFHCA Division III All-Americans

SUNY Geneseo seniors Katrina Clare (Barker, NY/Barker) and Hailey Roethel (Northport, NY/Northport) were named National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) NCAA Division III All-Americans on Tuesday, December 17. It is the first time in program history that Geneseo had two student-athletes earn All-American recognition. Clare was a second team selection, while Roethel was a thirdt team pick. They are the 19th and 20th different All-Americans in E8 history.
 
Clare led the Empire 8 in scoring with 38 points on 16 goals and six assists in 21 games played this season, and was named the E8 Offensive Player of the Year as well as First-Team All-Region. She excelled in league play, tallying 26 points on 11 goals and four assists in nine games vs. E8 foes. Clare recorded at least one point in 13 games, with five different two-goal outbursts. Clare's season was highlighted during during a six-game stretch from Sept. 18 to Oct. 5, recording 22 points.

Roethel enjoyed an excellent season for the Knights in 2024, leading a stout Geneseo defense that allowed just three goals in 12 games against Empire 8 opponents during the regular season and postseason. The Knights finished the season having allowed just 17 total goals in 21 contests overall this season. Roethel was also a tremendous weapon on penalty corners for Geneseo, as she has 15 points on five goals and five assists. Roethel was named the Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Year and First-Team All-Region for her efforts.

Clare and Roethel helped lead the Knights to the Empire 8 Championship and a berth to the NCAA Tournament this season with an overall record of 18-3.
