Graduate student goalkeeper Christian Burkhart of St. John Fisher University was named a 2024 United Soccer Coaches Division III Second Team All-American. Burkhart is the first Empire 8 men’s soccer student-athlete to earn United Soccer Coaches All-American honors since 2022 and first in St. John Fisher’s program history.
Burkhart, a native of Rochester, NY and Brighton High School, was previously named the 2024 Empire 8 Goalkeeper of the Year, an All-Empire 8 first team selection and garnered United Soccer Coaches All-Region III first team accolades. In addition, he was named the Empire 8 Men’s Soccer Championship Tournament Most Valuable Player after pitching three straight shutouts, while leading St. John Fisher to its third E8 title in program history. The Cardinals finished with an 11-5-5 overall record, 8-1-2 record in league play, Empire 8 Championship and automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship Tournament for just the second time in program history.
Burkhart led the Empire 8 in all three major goalkeeping categories, including lowest goals against average (0.54), highest save percentage (.869) and most shutouts (13). Burkhart, allowed just 12 goals in 21 games and finished the season tied for the NCAA Division III lead in shutouts. He recorded a stretch of six straight clean sheets from Oct. 19 to Nov. 9 and allowed just four goals in 14 games (regular season and postseason) against E8 opponents this season.
Overall, Burkhart finished eighth nationally with an .871 save percentage and 11th in lowest goals against average. Burkhart was a two-time Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Week.
Earlier in the week, Burkhart was one of a record 13 Empire 8 men’s soccer student-athletes to be named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Region team.
