The Empire 8 Conference announced its 2023-24 Women’s Basketball Championship All-Tournament Team on Tuesday, February 27. St. John Fisher University junior guard Sidney Tomasso was named Empire 8 Tournament Most Valuable Player after leading the Cardinals to their third straight league title and eighth in program history on February 24.
Tomasso, the 2023-24 Empire 8 Player of the Year averaged 17.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game in the two tournament games. She scored 13 points and added six rebounds in top-seeded St. John Fisher’s 62-50 win over No. 4 Hartwick College in the semifinal and followed that up with 21 points and six boards in the Empire 8 Championship game, a 66-55 victory over No. 3 seed Houghton University. Tomasso drained three 3-pointers and was 6-for-6 from the foul line in the win.
Fellow St. John Fisher standout Katie Moravec joined Tomasso on the All-Tournament Team after averaging 15.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals in the two tourney wins. She scored a season-high 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the floor with eight rebounds in St. John Fisher’s semifinal win over Hartwick College.
Kayla Camacho averaged 17.0 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game, while scoring a game-high 24 points in the Empire 8 Championship game for runner-up Houghton to earn All-Tournament Team accolades. Olivia Dobrovosky of Nazareth University and Bree Fargnoli of Hartwick College were also named to the All-Tournament Team. Dobrovosky had 14 points, seven boards, four steals and three assists in the E8 Semifinal against Houghton, while Fargnoli averaged 18.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.5 steals, while shooting 52 percent from the floor in two tourney games.
