PITTSFORD, NY – The St. John Fisher University men's basketball team were at home on Saturday to take on Alfred University. The closely contested game was highlighted by Daniel Cook who reached the 2,000 career points mark in the first half. Fisher celebrated the achievement with a 90-79 win to move their record to 15-7 overall and 11-2 in Empire 8 play.

Cook, the three-time reigning Empire 8 Player of the Year, played his freshman season at Hobart College, scoring 238 points. He joined St. John Fisher for the 2020-21 season and now has 1,817 with the Cardinals, which is fifth-most in Empire 8 history.

The Cardinals got off to a 6-0 lead thanks to scores by Cook, but Alfred showed they were going to back down and evened the score. Fisher began to maintain a steady advantage thanks to three pointers by Jack Foley and layups by Connor Williams, but with the first half ending, the Saxons answered every bucket with one of their own. As the frame concluded, the Cardinals led 48-44.

The two teams continued to trade points in the second-half, with Fisher not able to go up by more then eight points until the final minutes of the game. A free-throw by Brendan McRoy and layup by Connor Recore pushed the Cardinals ahead 86-75 and they were able to secure the victory, 90-79.

McRoy led the way with 19 points and added six assists. Cook finished the day with 17 points and added a stacked stat line with nine rebounds, four assists, two blocks and five steals. Recore and Foley each had 13 points and Matt Lettko finished with ten points, meaning the entire starting lineup scored double-digits.
