Kayla Camacho and Sidney Tomasso Named 2023-24 WBCA Honorable Mention All-Americans

Senior guard Kayla Camacho of Houghton University and junior guard Sidney Tomasso of St. John Fisher University were named 2023-24 Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) NCAA Division III Coaches’ Honorable Mention All-Americans.
 
The All-America team program recognizes 50 of the top DIII players in the nation, with 10 named to the All-America team and another 40 as honorable mention selections.

Camacho, a first team All-Empire 8 selection, had a breakout season in her final campaign as a Highlander. The 5-10 senior guard led the team in scoring (15.1 ppg), while ranking among the E8 leaders in shooting percentage, assists and steals. Camacho reached double figures in scoring 24 times, exceeding 20 points on seven occasions, and exploded for a career-high 38 points vs. Hartwick. She led the team with 53 made 3-pointers and finished third in rebounding (5.1) and second in assists (72) and steals (64). She also had season highs of 10 rebounds, nine steals and eight assists. She was named to the 2024 Empire 8 Women's Basketball Championship All-Tournament Team after scoring 24 points in the Empire 8 Championship game, as the Highlanders finished the campaign with a record of 23-5.

Camacho is the first Houghton women's basketball player to earn All-American honors.

Tomasso, a junior guard from Waverly, NY, was named the 2023-24 Empire 8 Player of the Year and earned D3hoops.com All-Region three first team accolades. Tomasso enjoyed a tremendous junior season for the Cardinals, finishing second in the Empire 8 in scoring, having averaged 16.1 points per game to go along with 6.7 boards per contest, eighth-best in the league. In addition, Tomasso also averaged 1.9 steals per game, which was eighth in the league, while shooting a league-best 81.0 percent from the foul line. Tomasso, now a two-time All-E8 first team selection, scored in double figures 24 times this season and had nine games with at least 20 points.

Tomasso was also named to the Empire 8 Championship Most Valuable Player after leading the Cardinals to their third straight E8 title and berth in the NCAA Tournament. St. John Fisher finished the 2024-25 season with a 24-5 mark. St. John Fisher has a 76-11 record in Tomasso's first three seasons.
