HENRIETTA, NY -- Junior pitcher Cassidy Ormond made history on Wednesday, throwing a five-inning perfect game for the St. John Fisher University softball team against RIT. It was the first of two wins on the day for the Cardinals as they swept their nonconference foes in a doubleheader.

GAME 1: SJF 8, RIT 0 (5 INNINGS)

Ormond struck out four Tigers while setting down all 15 batters she faced for the perfect game, which was shortened to five innings because of the run-rule. The Cicero, NY native is the first Fisher player to throw a perfect game since Jess Patterson had a similarly run-rule shortened perfecto against Nazareth on April 26 of last season.

Offensively, the Cardinals were led by junior centerfielder Maddie Donlin, who went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, and two RBI. Freshman third baseman Emily McManus also reached base three times, with two hits and a walk. Taylor Shackleton, Amalia DeMartino, Tori LoPresto, Katie Mannis, and Cassidy Evanetski each had an RBI.

GAME 2: SJF 13, RIT 8

The Cardinals won the second game in a slugfest that saw both teams rack up 10 hits as well as a fourth inning that had them combine for a total 15 runs.

Fisher jumped ahead in the top of the first when sophomore second baseman Madi Rose scored on a groundout to make it 1-0, but RIT answered with a run each in the bottom of the first and second to move ahead 2-1.

A few innings later, however, the Cardinals exploded for 10 runs in the top of the fourth. The scoring began with two on and one out, when Evanetski homered to center to move the Cardinals ahead, 4-2. Later, junior catcher Mari Spitz doubled in two more runs to extend the lead to 6-2, and DeMartino followed with a double of her own to push the score to 8-2. Freshman CC Holmes capped off the offensive output for the fourth by hitting a three-run home run (the first of her collegiate career) to move the score to 11-2.

Holmes also made an impact in the pitcher's circle, coming in in relief during RIT's five-run bottom of the fourth and then going the remainder of the game (3.1 innings), allowing just one hit and striking out two while chalking up her first collegiate win.

The Cardinals added two late insurance runs to ensure the 13-8 win and the sweep. Spitz, Holmes, and Evanetski all finished the game with three RBI.
