Senior infielder James Murphy of the St. John Fisher College baseball team was named to the National Team of the Week by D3baseball.com and earned National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Player of the Week honors for games played March 25-March 31, 2024.
Murphy batted an incredible .789 (15-for-19) on the week for the Cardinals. He scored 13 times, drove in 11 runs, stole seven bases, and walked six times during a 4-1 week in Empire 8 Conference play. Murphy reached base in all four plate appearances and scored three times in the E8 opener against Russell Sage College on Tuesday. He went 4-for-5 in game two with three RBI and a pair of stolen bases. Murphy finished a home run short of the cycle, scored four times, walked twice, and stole two bases on Friday against Utica University. On Saturday, Murphy reached base four times in game one and logged three RBI and three runs before capping the week by going 5-for-6 with three RBI, three runs, two doubles, and two stolen bases in a game-two win. Murphy recorded a tremendous 2.057 OPS on the week.
Murphy was St. John Fisher's eighth NCBWA Player of the Week selection.
Up next for the Cardinals is a home three-game series against E8 foe Elmira College. The competition starts with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 6 with first pitch set to take place at 12 p.m.
