The Empire 8 Conference announced its 2024 Empire 8 Softball Championship All-Tournament Team on Tuesday, May 14. Junior catcher Mari Spitz of St. John Fisher University was named the Empire 8 Tournament Most Valuable Player after leading the Cardinals to their ninth league title in program history over the weekend.
Spitz, who was also named to the E8 Championship All-Tournament Team in 2022, enjoyed a tremendous 2024 tournament, batting .467 (7-for-15) with two home runs, six RBI and five runs scored in the four games. Spitz went 3-for-4 with a three-run home runs and two runs in St. John Fisher’s 8-7 win in nine innings over Alfred University in an elimination game on May 10 and was 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI in St. John Fisher’s 9-1 win over Utica University in the decisive game of the tournament on May 11. Spitz was one of four St. John Fisher student-athletes to earn All-Tournament Team honors.
