Below are the Empire 8 Players of the Week, released on May 20, 2024, for games played from May 13 – May 19, 2024. It is the 36th and final Empire 8 weekly honors release of the 2023-24 season. Sports featured include men’s and women’s outdoor track and field.
 
MEN’S OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD
TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Cade Eells, Nazareth, Jr., Distance, Ithaca, NY/Ithaca
Eells broke the Empire 8 record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Championship from SUNY Cortland on May 15, crossing the finish line second overall in a time of 9:03.01. That time moved him into 28th nationally in the event and snapped the former Empire 8 mark of 9.10.11, set by Sawyer Hitchcock of Ithaca in 2016. It is Eells’ fourth weekly honor of the 2024 outdoor season.
 
FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Hunter Logan, Utica, Sr., Throws, Fort Plain, NY/Herkimer County Community College
Logan claimed his second career All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Championship in the shot put on May 16 at SUNY Cortland, hitting 16.90 meters on his final attempt to win the event. It was Logan's top mark of the season and ranked him 12th nationally. Each of his final three throws cleared 16.20 meters. Logan will compete at the NCAA Championships on Friday, May 24. He earned his second E8 weekly accolade of the season.
 
WOMEN’S OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD
TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Mackenzie Mix, Utica, Jr., Sprints, Camden, NY/Camden
Mix enjoyed a record setting day at the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Championships on May 16 at SUNY Cortland with podium finishes across her three events. Mix set Utica’s 400-meter dash record with a time of 56.42 seconds to place sixth. She went on to place seventh in the 100-meters in a time of 12.44 seconds and eighth in the 200-meters, hitting the finish line in 25.52 seconds. It is her fourth E8 weekly honor of 2024.
 
CO-FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Jane Fahy, Utica, Gr., Throws, Oriskany, NY/Oriskany
Fahy repeated as the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Champion in the shot put at SUNY Cortland on Thursday after hitting 14.46 meters (47’5.25”) on her final attempt. Fahy took the lead on her third throw and went increasingly further on her final throws, topping 14.16 meters or farther. She enters the NCAA Championship ranked fourth in the event. It is Fahy’s fourth E8 weekly honor of 2024.
 
CO-FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Makenna King, St. John Fisher, Sr., Throws, Norwood, NY/Norwood-Norfolk
King won the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Championship at SUNY Cortland in the discus throw with a school, personal best and NCAA qualifying toss of 49.26 meters (161’ 7”) on her sixth and final throw on Thursday. She had throws of 45.30 and 45.57 meters on her fourth and fifth attempts to move into fourth place before her final attempt. Her throw of 49.26 meters moved her into fourth in all of Division III heading into the NCAA Championships. It is her second E8 weekly honor of the season.
