A league record 40 student-athletes from seven Empire 8 men's basketball programs earned National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court accolades for the 2023-24 season. The NABC Honors Court highlights the talents and gifts that these men possess on the court and the hard work they exhibit in the classroom.
Over 1,800 men’s collegiate basketball student-athletes who excelled in academics during the past season were honored. In addition, over 300 teams were honored as well. In order to be named to the Honors Court, a student-athlete must meet a high standard of academic criteria. The qualifications are as follows:
1. Academically, a junior, senior, or graduate student and a varsity player.
2. Cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the 2022-23 academic year.
3. Students must have matriculated at least one year at their current institution.
4. Member of a NCAA Division I, II, III, or NAIA Division I or II institution with a NABC member coach.
The NABC Team Academic Excellence Awards recognize men’s basketball programs that completed the 2023-24 academic year with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. Alfred University, Keuka College, Nazareth University, Russell Sage College and St John Fisher University earned the team honor.
St. John Fisher led all Empire 8 programs with 10 student-athletes honored on the NABC Honors Court. Alfred had seven student-athletes earn the honor, while Houghton University, Keuka College and Utica University each had five student-athletes recognized. Four Nazareth and four Russell Sage student-athletes were also honored.
