Senior third baseman of St. John Fisher University was named to the 2024 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America® baseball team as a third team selection. Muprhy becomes the 29th different student-athlete in St. John Fisher history to earn Academic All-America® honors.
Last month, Murphy was named to the 2024 ABCA Rawlings Gold Glove and All-Defensive teams. This was after being named Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Year, First-Team All-Confrence, First-Team All-Region and Fourth-Team All-American.
Murphy led all Empire 8 student-athletes with 70 hits, 63 runs scored, 52 runs batted in and 33 stolen bases to go along with 15 doubles, five triples, four home runs, 107 total bases, a .395 batting average, .491 on-base percentage, .605 slugging percentage and a 1.096 OPS in 45 games played. In 18 regular season E8 contests, Murphy hit an incredible .547 (35-for-64) with 34 runs scored, six doubles, four triples and 28 RBI. He also maintained a 1.452 OPS. He also stole 18 bases in league play.
On defense this season, the Niskayuna, NY native helped turn 12 double plays from third base, the top number from Empire 8 third basemen. Murphy led all players in assists this season, with 107. His .965 fielding percentage was the best in the Empire 8 for third basemen, and 19th overall.
In four seasons at St. John Fisher, Murphy has a .329 career batting average with 210 hits, 187 runs scored, 47 doubles, 17 triples, 27 home runs and 189 runs batted in, while playing in and starting 167 contests.
