The Keuka College Softball Team posted the highest grade-point average among the nation's 406 NCAA Division III teams for the 2023-24 season, announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). The Wolves had a team grade-point average of 3.822 for the 2023-24 academic year, edging out Wheaton College (Mass.) and its 3.77 GPA for the top slot. The entire Keuka College Softball roster earned NFCA Scholar-Athlete awards for the school year.
"This is quite an honor and a testament to the work that our student-athletes have put in not only on the softball field but, most importantly, in the classroom," said Head Coach Jamie Burke. "This past season continued a tradition of academic success for the softball program, as they have averaged a 3.50 GPA over the past eight years and routinely place multiple student-athletes on scholar-athlete lists."
Keuka College Director of Athletics Jon Accardi said Coach Burke has a long history of supporting and leading players toward academic excellence.
"Balancing the demands of athletics and academics is no small feat, and their success is a shining example of what can be achieved with hard work and perseverance," said Accardi. "I am immensely proud to be associated with such a stellar group of student-athletes."
The Softball team's 3.84 grade-point average in the spring semester was the highest of any team in any sport in the Empire 8 Conference. The Wolves also had eight of their 11 players earn Empire 8 President's List honors by having a semester GPA of 3.75 or higher.
Emily Cutrona, Makenna DeMoney, and Emily VanDelinder led the spring effort with perfect 4.0 GPAs. Cutrona and VanDelinder completed the sweep by earning 4.0s for the entire academic year.
