WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • The Hawks looked to pick up their first conference win of the season, coming off of a shutout win over DeSales.

  • Hartwick controlled possession for the majority of the first quarter, generating five shots off six corners.

  • Houghton struggled in the first quarter, posting zero shots and corners after being swarmed by the Hawks all over the field.

  • Despite the difference in possession, the first quarter ended scoreless as the Hawks looked to convert on one of their chances.

  • The first half of the second quarter followed the same trend of the first quarter as both teams battled for possession, exchanging fouls as teams grew desperate trying to gain an advantage over one another.

  • After turning away two corners and a shot on goal, the Hawks conceded the first goal of the game to Houghton with five minutes remaining in the half.

  • The Hawks generated a late corner but the shot by Hope Angioletti (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) was blocked as the Hawks were held scoreless for the half.

  • With the second half underway, the Hawks worked their way into Houghton's half, posting eight corners in the quarter.

  • Despite the eight corners, Hartwick could not seem to put it all together for a score as time began to dwindle with the Highlanders still leading by one goal.

  • Sami Shortino (Webster, N.Y.) and Jessica Betts (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) posted shots on goal in the final minute of the third but were turned away by the Houghton keeper.

  • The fourth quarter began and the Hawks had 15 minutes to make something happen, they faced early pressure with a shot on goal from the Highlanders, but Ava Reynolds (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) was able to thwart the shot.

  • After a Houghton shot missed wide, the Royal Blue and White marched down the field, Ashley Tricarico (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) would find the back of the cage, tying the game at one with ten minutes remaining.

  • Hartwick was not satisfied with the one score as they continued to pressure the Highlanders, posting two corners and four shots, overwhelming the Houghton defense causing them to slip up and foul the Hawks, giving them a penalty stroke.

  • Tricarico stayed composed and was able to knock down the penalty attempt, giving the Hawks their first lead of the game, with nine minutes left in the fourth.

  • The Hawks would stand tall, allowing only one shot on goal with none coming in the final eight minutes as the Hawks would pick up their first conference win after a strong fourth quarter.
