Adair Milmoe Named Alfred University’s First Field Hockey Head Coach

ALFRED, NYDeb Steward, Associate Vice President for Student Experience, Athletics, and Recreation, announced the appointment of Adair Milmoe as Alfred University's first field hockey head coach.
 
"Adair's experience as a head coach will allow her to hit the ground running in building the foundation of our field hockey program," Steward said. "With her contagious enthusiasm coupled with her experience in higher education, I look forward to her impact on our Alfred University community."
 
Milmoe will officially begin her tenure on September 30, 2024. "I am honored to join the Athletic Department at Alfred University and to lead the process of constructing the foundation of the Saxons NCAA Division III field hockey program. I believe that together we can build not only a team of successful student-athletes in the Empire 8 but also promote academic excellence in the classroom," Milmoe said. "Respectfully, I would like to thank the athletic staff for their time and consideration, and most importantly, Deb Steward for her leadership, vision and support. Her belief in me to manage the advancement of the introductory field hockey program along with the recruiting efforts to impact the Saxon Hill project inspires me to utilize all my skills, knowledge and connections to achieve success for our Saxon community."
 
Milmoe comes to Alfred University after a year at Wells College where she served as the Head Field Hockey Coach as well as the Assistant Athletic Director of Student Athlete Academic Success. Prior to Wells College, Milmoe was the Head Coach at Cazenovia College for four years. She was the Head Field Hockey Coach and Assistant Women's Lacrosse Coach at SUNY Morrisville for five years prior to Cazenovia. Milmoe's first head coaching position was at SUNY Oswego, leading both the field hockey and women's lacrosse teams for four years while earning 2005 SUNYAC Women's Lacrosse Coach of the Year.
 
Milmoe spent time on the academic and administrative side of higher education, starting with being a instructor at Syracuse University for two years, teaching upper-level, Introduction to Coaching as one of three classes offered at Syracuse for a New York State Coaching Certification. While at Cazenovia, Milmoe was the TRIO SSS Academic Counselor and Administrator, counseling students on how to utilize TRIO resources for their benefit toward graduation goals.
 
During her SUNY Morrisville tenure, Milmoe was also the Accessibility Services Coordinator. In that role, she established standards of accountability and service to meet student needs relative to accommodations. Milmoe played a crucial role in serving the needs of over 250 students on campus during the COVID-19 global pandemic. Milmoe returned to Syracuse University in 2022 to be the Assistant Coordinator of Exam Services.
 
Milmoe graduated from Hobart and William Smith Colleges in 1988, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She later earned her Master of Business Administration in 1992 from Northeastern University.
 
Field hockey will become Alfred University's 27th varsity team and will begin play in the Fall of 2025. The Saxons will join 158 other NCAA Division III teams as the largest number of field hockey programs in any division. AU will compete on Merrill Field at Yunevich Stadium for the 2025 schedule, before moving up to its brand new, permanent practice and competition site at the Saxon Hill Sports Complex in 2026.
 
The Saxon Hill Sports Complex is a $30 million athletics and recreation facility atop Jericho Hill in the town of Alfred. The University estimates the project will increase student enrollment by approximately 170 students in the first six years of its opening. The 41-acre facility will feature a multi-purpose synthetic turf field surrounded by an eight-lane, 400-meter track as well as a synthetic turf baseball field and a natural grass rugby field. The field hockey team will have its team room housed in the Saxon Sports Center, adjacent to the field. The Sports Center will also feature an athletic training room, additional team rooms, offices and an assembly space.
