Brockport Erases 25 Point Deficit at Geneseo, Sets Program Record with 10th Straight Win

Golden Eagles Move to 9-0 in Empire 8 play

GENESEO, NY - The SUNY Brockport women's basketball team overcame a 25-point deficit to defeat SUNY Geneseo, 73-72, on the road Tuesday, January 28. The Golden Eagles improved to 16-2 and 9-0 in Empire 8 play.

Brockport erased a huge deficit thanks to 35 points in the fourth quarter and a game-winning shot from Shannon Blankenship in the final 10 seconds. In dramatic fashion, the Green and Gold set a new program record with a 10th consecutive win.
 
Blankenship connected for four three-pointers, finishing with 14 points and four rebounds in a clutch performance.
 
Kaileigh Hunt posted a game-high 21 points with 2/3 shooting from deep, adding nine rebounds.
 
In the first quarter, Stephanie Jean-Baptiste initiated the defense with two steals and a block early in the contest. Shannon Blankenship closed the quarter strong with a 3-pointer assisted by Jean-Baptiste, and Claire Turner added a layup to bring Brockport within six entering the second.
 
In the second quarter, Kaileigh Hunt was active on both ends, securing multiple defensive rebounds and scoring a team-high total of five points, including a 3-pointer with 1:25 remaining. Despite Brockport's efforts, the Knights maintained a 19-11 edge in the quarter. The Golden Eagles struggled with shooting efficiency, converting only 5 of 19 field goal attempts.
 
In the third quarter, Shannon Blankenship made an immediate impact, securing an offensive rebound and converting a layup at the 9:42 mark, followed by a successful 3-pointer later in the quarter. Despite this, the Knights maintained their scoring pace, led by Grace Galgano's consistent contributions with multiple layups and a 3-pointer. Kaileigh Hunt delivered a strong finish by scoring a layup and two free throws in the final minutes. Brockport would enter the fourth down by 21 points.
 
In the fourth quarter, the Golden Eagles outscored the Knights 35-13. Harmony Philo got the offense going, hitting back-to-back 3-pointers, including a fast-break three at 4:22, to help close the gap. Kaileigh Hunt contributed with crucial plays, including a defensive rebound followed by a layup at 1:10 and another bucket at 0:34, bringing Brockport within one point. Down two with 10 seconds left, Shannon Blankenship would come through with a game-winning three-pointer, extending Brockport's winning streak to ten.
 
The Golden Eagles would finish the contest shooting 73% from the field (14-19), connecting on 6 of 11 three-pointers in the fourth. Brockport's 35-point fourth quarter serves as the highest of the season.
