SUNY Geneseo, Hartwick University, Nazareth University, St. John Fisher University, Houghton University, and SUNY Brockport will vie for the 2025 Empire 8 Field Hockey Championship, which starts on Saturday, Nov. 1 and wraps up Saturday, Nov. 8, with all games played at the higher seed.
No. 3 seed Nazareth will host No. 6 SUNY Brockport, while East Ave. No. 4 seed St. John Fisher and No. 5 seed Houghton will compete in opening round games on Saturday, Nov. 1. The winner of St. John Fisher vs. Houghton will travel to face top-seed SUNY Geneseo on Wednesday, Nov. 5, while No. 2 seed Hartwick is set to host the winner of Nazareth vs. Brockport, also on Wednesday. The two semifinal winners will meet for the 2025 Empire 8 Championship on Saturday, Nov. 8 at the highest remaining seed.
The league champion receives an automatic berth into the 2025 NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship Tournament, which begins on Nov. 12.

No. 3 – Nazareth University (8-2 E8, 12-5 Overall)
No. 4 – St. John Fisher University (7-3 E8, 9-7 Overall)
No. 5 – Houghton University (6-4 E8, 10-5 Overall)
No. 6 – SUNY Brockport (5-5 E8, 8-9 Overall)
SUNY Geneseo, ranked No. 19 nationally in the most recent NCAA National Power Index, has enjoyed a tremendous 2025 season, having finished 10-0 in Empire 8 play and 18-1 overall on the season. Geneseo is riding a 21-game winning streak against Empire 8 foes since joining the league last season. The Knights have out-scored opponents, 60-5 in league play and 87-11 overall and have five players with at least 20 points and six student-athletes with at least six goals. Ella Greico leads the Empire 8 in scoring with 23 goals and 56 points, while Aubree Wenner has 28 points on 12 goals and four assists. Greico also has a league-best seven game-winning goals. Ava Harman has 27 points on nine goals and nine helpers, while 2024 E8 Championship Tournament Most Valuable Player Sam Lewis has eight goals and nine assists. Defender Shannon Cunningham has six goals and 15 points. Goalkeeper Bridget Schafer leads all E8 players with 18 wins, a 0.50 goals against average and eight solo shutouts.
No. 2 seed Hartwick, the 2022 and 2023 league champions, enter the E8 Tournament with an 11-5 overall mark and finished 9-1 in league play during the season, outscoring its E8 opponents, 48-4. The Hawks boast three different players with at least 24 points. Katelyn Klotz, a defender, leads the Hawks in scoring with 35 points on 15 goals and five assists, while Hope Angioletti is right behind with 27 points on eight goals and a league-high 11 assists and Kayla Kinkel has eight goals and eight helpers. Kinkel also has a team-high three game-winning goals. Goalkeeper Ava Reynolds has a 1.26 goals against average and an .846 save percentage.
Third-seeded Nazareth finished 8-2 overall in league play and enter the tourney with a 12-5 record. Michaela Cushman is among the E8 leaders in goals and points this season, tallying 17 goals, eight assists and 42 points, while Hannah Janes has 10 goals and seven assists for 27 points and Audra Mieczkowski has 11 goals and 26 points. Five of Janes’ 10 goals are game-winners. Goalkeeper Lauren Bachner has played in all 17 games, recording a 12-5 mark, 1.41 goals against average and an .842 save percentage.
No. 4 seed St. John Fisher enters the tournament having out-scored opponents, 40-18 in league play this season. The Cardinals are looking for their fourth league title. Mary Kate McPhee leads the Cardinals in scoring with 28 points on 10 goals and eight assists, while Avery McLaughlin is right behind with 27 points on 10 goals and seven helpers and Sam Current has nine goals, including four game-winning tallies. Alison Taplin has a team-high two defensive saves. In net, Morgan Parinello is 8-4 with a 2.02 goals against average.
Houghton, the No. 5 seed, advanced to the Empire 8 Championship game for the first time in program history in 2022 and is outscoring its opponents, 52-26 this season. Kylee Barshinger leads the Highlanders in scoring with 31 points on 13 goals and five assists, while Adria Hartzler is right behind with 29 points on 12 goals and five assists, and Lilyana Good has nine goals, including four game-winning tallies. Goalkeeper Annika Galen has played in all 15 games and has a 1.66 goals against average and a .747 save percentage.
SUNY Brockport enters the E8 Tournament as the No. 6 seed after advancing to the E8 Semifinals last season. Terralyn McLaughlin and Elise Brady lead the Golden Eagles with 17 points apiece. Brady has a team-high eight goals, while McLaughlin has six goals and five assists. Four of Brady’s eight goals are game-winning tallies. Autumn Kramer has a team-high three defensive saves. In net, Katelynn Banning has a team-high 76 saves, while Lauren Mastromarco has five wins and a 2.45 goals against average.
First round opponents Nazareth and Brockport met in Brockport on Oct. 18, with Nazareth earning a 6-2 victory. St. John Fisher defeated first round opponent Houghton on the road in overtime by a score of 3-2 behind two Sam Current goals, including the game-winner on Oct. 4.
Geneseo is attempt to win its second straight title in its second season as a league member. Hartwick is attempting to win its third title in the last four seasons and seventh overall, while St. John Fisher is looking for its fourth title since 2016 and third in the last six years. SUNY Brockport, SUNY Geneseo, Nazareth, and Houghton are all attempting to win their first league crown.
