BALTIMORE, MD – Arguably the most historic season in St. John Fisher women's volleyball history came to an end in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday evening with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-12) loss to the University of La Verne at Johns Hopkins University's Goldfarb Gymnasium.

The Cardinals (30-2) had their remarkable winning streak, which began with a sweep of the University of Rochester in their second contest of the season, snapped at 30 matches with the loss. La Verne (27-2) will face Johns Hopkins in the regional final at 5 p.m. on Saturday.

How It Happened

The Cardinals went on a 5-1 run early in the first set to take an 8-5 lead, but La Verne responded with a 10-2 surge to go ahead by five, 15-10. After Fisher scrapped its way back to tie the set at 16, the Leopards used a 9-3 run from that point on to secure a 25-19 victory.

Fisher committed 10 attacking errors and hit well under .100 in the second set, which La Verne claimed 25-16. The Leopards slammed 11 kills while hitting .259 and totaled six blocks in the frame.

La Verne jumped out to a 12-5 lead in the final set and kept the throttle down en route to a 25-12 victory that completed the sweep. The Leopards pounded 11 more kills and hit over .360 in the frame.

The Cardinals struggled offensively throughout, as they finished with a season-low 21 kills and committed 25 attacking errors. La Verne amassed 35 kills and registered the highest hitting percentage (.244) a team has had against Fisher all year.

Freshman outside hitter Kalyna Dannenberg led the Cardinals with 11 kills. Junior outside hitter Kaylene Noble was the only other Cardinal to have five or more.

La Verne was led by Mya Ray, who produced 15 kills while hitting .357. Abigail Montana stuffed the stat sheet with five total blocks, four kills and two service aces.
