BROCKPORT, NY – A perfect ball, perfect timing and a perfect shot delivered the moment the St. John Fisher women's soccer program had been waiting years for just a little after 3 p.m. on Saturday at A. Huntley Parker Jr. Field. The St. John Fisher women's soccer team captured its first Empire 8 title on Saturday with a 1-0 OT win over top-seeded Brockport.

About seven minutes into overtime, senior forward Madelyn Wania sent a high-arching corner kick in the direction of senior defender Ryann Dauksza, who used her head to push the ball to junior midfielder Francesca Logrippo. Before the ball hit the ground – and before any defenders could get in the way – Logrippo snapped off a shot with her left foot, pushing it to the right of the goalkeeper.

No. 2-seeded St. John Fisher 1, top-seeded SUNY Brockport 0.

Logrippo raised both of her arms in the air, and her teammates swarmed her from all directions. In that moment, head coach Molly Romano's team could call themselves Empire 8 Conference champions and punch their ticket to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the first time in program history.

Fisher had appeared in the Empire 8 title game twice before under Romano, falling to Nazareth in 2021 and 2023.

The Cardinals (13-4-2) pushed their winning streak to seven games and reached 13 wins for the first time since 1983 with the victory. Brockport (14-2-4), which made the NCAA Tournament last year, suffered its first loss to an Empire 8 team since falling 2-0 to Fisher in the regular season last October.

Both teams' back lines held strong throughout, but the Cardinals undoubtedly applied more offensive pressure before their overtime breakthrough. They had 13 shots, including five on target, to Brockport's nine up until that point.

Fisher freshman goalkeeper Isabella Ayers needed to make just two saves in the contest. The shutout marked her fifth in six games since becoming the Cardinals' starting goalkeeper in a 4-0 win over Houghton on Oct. 15.

The Cardinals outscored their three E8 Tournament opponents – Houghton, Nazareth and Brockport – 4-0.

Logrippo Named MVP

Logrippo became the first player in Fisher history to be named Empire 8 Tournament MVP.
