SUNY Geneseo sweeps finals events on day three of 2025 Empire 8 Women's Swimming and Diving Championships

WEBSTER, NY – SUNY Geneseo won all five events on the evening and continues to lead after day three of the 2025 Empire 8 Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship, held the Webster Aquatic Center on Friday, February 21.
 
The nationally-ranked Knights have 849 team points to pace the field with ahead of Hartwick College, who has 471 points and SUNY Brockport, third with 433. Six-time defending champion Nazareth University is in fourth with 424, while Alfred University is fifth with 262 points.
 
Geneseo started the night with a splash, shattering an eight-year old Empire 8 Championship and overall mark in the 200-yard medley relay, as the team of Courtney Sorbello, Emily Thomas, Alise Hale, and Alex Sotek rolled to a convincing win in an NCAA “B” cut time of 1:43.16.
 
Hale broke her of SUNY Geneseo broke her second individual mark of the week, this time crushing an 11-year old Empire 8 record (Maria McClure of Stevens; 2:04.03 seconds in 2014) and recorded an NCAA “B” cut time in winning the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:01.97. She was more than eight seconds fastest than the rest of the field.
 
Nina Chicatelli of Geneseo won a stirring 100-yard backstroke final by just 37 one-hundredths of a second over Elizabeth Share of Alfred in a time of 57.25 seconds. Emily Thomas earned the win in the 100-yard breaststroke by just over a second over two-time E8 Swimmer of the Year Courtney Pierce of Hartwick in a time of 1:04.38.
 
Geneseo ended the night with a with by nearly nine seconds in the 800-yard freestyle relay, as the quartet of Abby Funk, Hannah Brockman, Emily McCord, and Thalia Marquez won in a time of 7:46.25.
 
Day four action begins with the prelims at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The concluding finals events begin at 5:30 p.m.
