2024-25 Empire 8 Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championship to Take Place Feb. 28-March 1 at Utica

Alfred University, SUNY Brockport, SUNY Geneseo, Hartwick College, Houghton University, Nazareth University, Russell Sage College, St. John Fisher University and Utica University will compete at the two-day 2024-25 Empire 8 Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships starting at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 28 from the Todd and Jen Hutton Sports and Recreation Center on the campus of Utica. Nazareth will look to earn its third straight Empire 8 Championship. Day two action will begin on Saturday, March 1 at 11 a.m.

2024-25 Empire 8 Team Capsules (Order Based on 2023-24 Championship Finish)

 
Nazareth recorded its second straight Empire 8 Championship in 2024 and enters with a deep group of student-athletes looking to earn the three-peat. Graduate student Lea Richard is the four-time defending Empire 8 Champion in the weight throw and enters the meet with the 13th best toss in Division III this season (17.81 meters). Teammate Isabel Morse has the top pole vault in the conference and is ranked seventh nationally at 3.86 meters. She is the two-time E8 Defending Champion. Kiara Tornusciolo is ranked second in the league in the pole vault. Samantha Luba enters the weekend as a top contender in the 60-meter hurdles, triple jump, and pentathlon. Ella Impaglia, Kelsey Fahy and Kennedy Doran will contend in the distance events. Alaina Morley will look to medal in both the 60-meter dash and long jump, while Katie Jacques and Sydney LaSalle lead a deep Nazareth group in the triple jump.
 
Utica has several standout student-athletes who will vie for individual titles, as the Pioneers will aim to win their first league title in program history. Nora Devitt was the 2024 Empire 8 Indoor Field Athlete of the Championship meet and is the defending league champ in both the long jump and triple jump. She also is the E8 leader in the triple jump heading into this weekend. Arianna McLendon is the defending E8 Champion in the 400-meters, while first-year Shiann Williams is ranked third in the event heading into the weekend with a time of 58.45 seconds. Williams will also be a contender in the 60- and 200-meters. Catherine Manna and Marlo Townsend will represent Utica in the distance events. Hannah Allison is the defending E8 Champion in the high jump and is ranked third in the league in the event this season. Zeniyah Gholson will also be a strong contender to medal in the triple jump, while Riley King will look to medal for Utica in the throws as well and Stefania Grimaldi will contend in the pentathlon.
 
St. John Fisher will look to get back to the Empire 8 Championship podium this weekend. Ciarra Franz, the 2022 and 2023 Empire 8 Champion in the 60-meter hurdles, will look for her third league crown in the event and is also a top contender in the 60-meter dash. Abigail Dorunda and Makenna Manson are also top contenders in both the 60- and 200-meters. Caitlin Voloshen is the defending Empire 8 Champion in the mile and will also contend with teammates Brianne Hurlburt and Olivia Grinell in the middle-distance events. The Cardinals are also the defending E8 Champions in the distance medley relay. Veronica Duell is a former NCAA Championship participant in the long jump and is ranked fourth in the conference heading into the weekend. First-year Kathryn Hillyard is ranked second in the league in both the high jump and pole vault, while Kianna Naval is eighth in the triple jump. Erin McGuiness is fifth in the league in shot put heading into the championship meet, while Jazelle McIntyre is fifth in the weight throw and Victoria Rogoyski is eighth in the pentathlon.
 
Houghton will look to win its first E8 title in 2025. Sophomore Victoria Brewster enters the meet with the top time among all E8 student-athletes in the 60-meter dash (7.63), which is also tied for eighth nationally. She is the defending league champion in both the 60- and 200-meters and was the 2024 Empire 8 Indoor Track and Field Rookie of the Year. Noelle Linenfesler, the 2024 Empire 8 Indoor Track and Field Championship Track Athlete of the Meet, will look to contend in the middle-distance events. She is the defending E8 Champion in both the 3,000- and 5,000-meters. Jenna Binney, Haley Bernan and Emberlynn Nolt will contend for medals in track events. Houghton is always well represented in the relay events and this season should be no different. Alexa Belanger enters the meet with the best leap in the high jump this season among E8 student-athletes and is tied for 25th nationally in the event at 1.65 meters.  
 
Alfred enters the 2024 Empire 8 Championship looking to improve off of last season’s fifth place finish. Anne Spila is set to lead the Saxons in the pentathlon, as she enters the championship as the fourth-best scorer in the league this season at 3,024 points. Spila is the defending Empire 8 Champion in the 60-meter hurdles and will contend in the jumping events. McKenzie Hall will represent the Saxons in middle distance events, while Zoe Rainville, Natalya Ryckman, and Meridian Bremel will contend for medals.
 
Russell Sage will look to improve on last season’s sixth place finish. Alexius Smith is Russell Sage’s top student-athlete in the high jump, while Sarah Armenia will look to earn points in the shot put.
 
Hartwick will look to make strong strides forward at the 2025 E8 Championship. TyNiyah Holley will look to contend in the hurdles, while Brynita Haas is Hartwick’s top distance runner. Giovanna Wall is Hartwick’s top thrower.
 
SUNY Brockport is ranked fifth in the Niagara region as the Golden Eagles compete in their first Empire 8 Championshp. Sprinter Marissa Wise is ranked second in the Empire 8 in both the 200- and 400-meters. The Golden Eagles have a strong group of middle-distance standouts, led by 2024 E8 Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Year Jaylah Cossin, Ethne Degan and Mia Vizcaino. The Golden Eagles are the E8’s top seed in the distance medley relay and are second in the 4 x 400-meter relay heading into the weekend. On the field side, Sasha Schramm will look to medal in the long jump, triple jump, and high jump, while Isabel Swyers and Becca Bready are medal contenders in the pole vault. The Golden Eagles have a deep group of throwers, looking to advance to the medals podium. Trinity Dees is ranked fifth in the league in the shot put, while Katrina Chandler is fifth in the weight throw.
 
SUNY Geneseo enters its first E8 Championship meet ranked fifth in the latest NCAA Division III Women’s Indoor Track and Field Rating Index. The Knights have tremendous depth throughout the lineup, have set a  and enter the championship meet with the top performance in 12 events and have a handful of student-athletes among the national leaders. Brynn Mooney has the top E8 time in the 200- and 400-meters and is 12th nationally in the 200- and fourth in the 400-. Sierra Doody and Janelle Eckl are 1-2 in the league in the 800-meters, and both are top-10 nationally. Eckl broke the E8 record in the event earlier in the season. Penelope Greene, the 2024 E8 Cross Country Runner of the Year and All-American, is the current E8 leader in the mile, 3,000- and 5,000-meters and is sixth nationally in the 3,000-meters and third in the 5,000-meters. Lilly Fowler-Conner, Ari Reback, Ann Brennan, Gabriella McCarthy, Annika Hurley, and Jillian O’Rourke will look to contend in the distance events as well. Jillian Ambler is the current E8 leader in both the 60-meter hurdles and long jump, while also earning national acclaim in both events. Eckl and Lainey Flaitz enter the meet 1-2 in the E8 in the pentathlon, with Eckl currently seventh nationally. Zoe Connor and Lauren Jakitsch are two of the top throwers in the league. Connor is tied for 13th nationally in the weight throw. Kayla Huba and Ariana D’Onofrio will contend for medals in the long jump, while Elsye Klump is a top contender in the triple jump. Geneseo set the E8 record earlier in the season in the 4 x 400-meter relay (3:49.20) and is fourth nationally in the event.
