St. John Fisher senior guard Sidney Tomasso was named Player of the Year for the second consecutive season, as the Empire 8 Conference announced its 2024-25 Women’s Basketball All-Conference awards on Thursday, February 27. The awards are voted on by the league's head coaches.
Tomasso is enjoying a tremendous senior season for the Cardinals, leading the Empire 8 in scoring, averaging 19.2 points per game to go along with 9.3 rebounds per contest, second-best in the league. In addition, Tomasso is averaging 1.8 steals per game, which is ninth in the league, while shooting 86.5 percent from the foul line, second best in the league. Her 147 made free throws leads the league by a wide margin. Tomasso, who is now a three-time All-E8 first team selection, has scored in double figures 24 times this season, 12 games with at least 20 points and 12 double-doubles. Tomasso is the sixth player in league history to repeat as Empire 8 Player of the Year.
Junior guard Kiara Anglin of Nazareth University and junior guard Stephanie Jean-Baptiste of SUNY Brockport shared 2024-25 Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Year honors.
Anglin, a native of Rochester, NY, is third in the league, averaging 2.4 steals per game and fourth in the league, blocking just over one shot per game. Anglin also averages 8.2 points and 6.7 boards per game. The Nazareth defense allowed opponents to shoot just 31.6 percent from the floor in league play.
Jean-Baptiste, who also earned All-E8 first team honors, leads an aggressive Brockport defense that forces 22.6 turnovers per game. Brockport’s opponents also shot just 33.7 percent from the floor in league play. Jean-Baptiste is second in the league, averaging 2.4 steals per game. She is also second in the Empire 8 in scoring, averaging 18.3 points per contest.
SUNY Brockport guard Peyton Maneri was named the Empire 8 Rookie of the Year. Maneri, a native of Auburn, NY, leads all Empire 8 student-athletes in steals, averaging 2.7 per game. She is also averaging 8.4 points and 2.4 assists per game.
Brockport, led by head coach Corinne Jones and assistant coaches Scott Foster, Dyamon Hunter, Anna Felice and Zairea Hannah led the Golden Eagles to a 15-1 mark in league play, regular season title and top-seed in the Empire 8 Tournament. Brockport, 24-3 overall, is out-scoring opponents by an average of 16.7 points per game this season (80.3-63.6) and lead the league in rebounding (46.3 per game) and lead the league in turnover margin (9.4 per game) by a wide margin. Three Golden Eagles earned All-E8 accolades this season.
Houghton’s Kayla Camacho, Nazareth’s Sarina McDowell, Katie Moravec of St. John Fisher and the SUNY Geneseo duo of Mackenzie Reigle and Kiley Snow joined Tomasso and Jean-Baptiste on the Empire 8 first team this season. Camacho earned her second straight All-E8 first team accolade. Camacho, Jean-Baptiste, Moravec and Snow all surpassed the 1,000-career point milestone this season. Reigle leads all of Division III, averaging 8.1 assists per game and is just four dimes shy of setting the Empire 8 single-season record.
Top-seed SUNY Brockport will host No. 2 seed SUNY Geneseo in the 2025 Empire 8 Women’s Basketball Championship at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 1. The Empire 8 Champion receives an automatic berth into the 2025 NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
One member of each team was named that institution's representative on the 2024-25 Women's Basketball Sportswoman of the Year Team.
