Junior Jaylen Savage of Nazareth University was named a 2024-25 NABC First Team All-America selection on Wednesday, March 19. He becomes the first Empire 8 player since 2009-10 (Corey McAdam of Nazareth) to earn NABC First Team All-America honors and the sixth all-time in league history. Savage becomes the 14th different Empire 8 student-athlete to earn NABC All-America honors in the league's 26th season.
Savage, the 2025 Empire 8 Player of the Year, enjoyed another banner season for the Golden Flyers, as he led all Empire 8 players in scoring, averaging 21.0 points per game, shooting 87.9 percent from the foul line to go along with 6.1 boards and 1.6 steals per game. He also broke the Empire 8 single-season record with 217 made field goals. A native of Elmsford, NY, Savage averaged 21.1 points on 47 percent shooting from the floor in league play this season. Savage, who has 1,281 points in three seasons with the Golden Flyers, scored at least 20 points in 15 different games this season, including four different 30-point outings.
Earlier this week, Savage was named the NABC District III Player of the Year, garnered D3hoops.com First Team All-Region accolades and was named the Rochester Area United States Basketball Writers Association Player of the Year.
After amassing 715 points over his first two seasons, Savage erupted for 566 for his junior campaign. The 566 points scored ranks sixth all-time on the Nazareth single season list. He surpassed the 1,000-point mark for his career during 2024-25 season and now has 1,281 total, tied for 40th in league history.
Savage showed up in the biggest moments throughout the year including scoring the game-winning bucket as time expired in Nazareth's Battle of the Beaks win at St. John Fisher on Jan. 28. He averaged 28.5 points in two E8 Tournament games this season on his way to earning E8 All-Tournament Team accolades. Savage was a two-time E8 Player of the Week in 2024-25.
