Brockport's Jonathan Zavala and Associate Head Coach John Davis Earn 2025 Niagara Region Men's Indoor Honors

BIRMINGHAM, AL – SUNY Brockport senior Jonathan Zavala was named the 2025 Niagara Region Indoor Track Athlete of the Year and Brockport Track and Field Associate Head Coach John Davis earned the 2025 Niagara Region Assistant Coach of the Year award as announced by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) .

Zavala, who hails from Montgomery, New York, took runner-up in the mile at the 2025 NCAA DIII Indoor Championships. He traversed the distance in 4:06.48 at the NCAA Championships for one of the fastest flat-track marks in meet history, which also smashed the Empire 8 record. Earlier in the season, Zavala was named the Empire 8 Track Athlete of the Championships after winning the mile, 800 meters, and helping SUNY Brockport’s 4×400 relay squad finish runner-up. He was named the 2025 Empire 8 Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year on March 25.

Davis, in his sixth year as Associate Head Coach at SUNY Brockport, coached the Golden Eagles’ Jonathan Zavala to a runner-up finish in the mile at the 2025 NCAA DIII Indoor Championships. His 800-meter and mile groups are rated No. 9 and No. 10, respectively, in the national #EventSquad Rankings, with both No. 2 regionally.
