The Empire 8 Conference announced its 2025 Empire 8 Softball Championship All-Tournament Team on Wednesday, May 14. Sophomore pitcher Kendall Steward of Alfred University was named the Empire 8 Tournament Most Valuable Player after leading the Saxons to their fourth league title in program history and third in the last five seasons over the weekend.
Steward was tremendous for the Saxons during the tournament, throwing all 414 pitches for the Saxons over 27 innings of tournament play, finishing 4-0 with a 3.11 earned run average, while batting .333 (5-for-15) with four runs scored and two doubles, as the Saxons won all four of their tournament games. Steward had back-to-back multiple-hit efforts in the first two wins of the tournament over Nazareth University and Utica University and saved her best for last in the decisive game of the tournament, allowing seven hits and two runs in the complete-game effort in a 5-2 win over St. John Fisher on May 10. Steward was one of four Alfred student-athletes to earn All-Tournament Team honors.
