PITTSFORD, NY – St. John Fisher men's golf graduate senior standout Nick Tellone was named to the 2025 Division III PING All-Region II Team. The honorees were first announced at the 2025 NCAA Division III Pre-Championship Block Party on Sunday at St. John Fisher's Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Athletics Center.

In collaboration with Visit Rochester, St. John Fisher is hosting the DIII championship this week for the second time in the last 10 years.

The Midvale Country Club in Penfield and the Cobblestone Creek Country Club in Victor will host first- and second-round competition simultaneously on Monday and Tuesday. Midvale will host the final two rounds on Thursday and Friday.

Tellone, a three-time All-Empire 8 performer and the conference's Player of the Year in 2022-23, will represent the Cardinals in the championship along with senior RJ Juodaitis and freshmen Nick Years, Robert Fischer and Colin Patterson.

The host Cardinals, coached by Bob Simms, who's led the program since 2000, won their 20th Empire 8 Conference title and fourth in a row in April to earn the conference's automatic bid to the national tournament. Tellone placed third on the individual leaderboard in the E8 Championship.

DIII Championship Activies Begin With Special Olympics Tee Shots, Block Party

The NCAA Division III Championship proceedings began on Sunday with Special Olympics First Tee Shots before the practice rounds at both courses. Zach Adams, Chris Teich, Paige Ditzel, Amanda Vito and Irinia Ritchie were selected as the participants.

Special Olympics provides sports training and athletic competition opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities.

Later in the day, all 43 teams (five players each) and the 10 individual qualifiers gathered on the Fisher campus for a pre-championship block party. Student-athletes and coaches enjoyed a variety of Rochester-related food offerings, including the famous garbage plate, and played lawn games.

In addition to the seven PING All-Region teams, the NCAA announced Aurora University's Braeden Duncan as the Elite 90 recipient for the third year in a row. The award recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The Elite 90 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's championships.
