Nine Empire 8 Standouts Named to 2025 NFHCA Division III Watchlist

Nine student-athletes from four different Empire 8 Institutions were named to the 2025 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III Watchlist. Allison Greene from SUNY Brockport. Shannon Cunnigham, Ella Grieco, Ava Harman, Sam Lewis and Sara O'Donnell from SUNY Geneseo. Cheyanne Zobel from Russell Sage College and Mary Kate McPhee and Alison Taplin from St. John Fisher University earned the prestigiouos honor.

This list is intended to showcase those field hockey student-athletes with the strongest potential for consideration to the current year's NFHCA All-American teams. To be nomiated for the 2025 NFHCA Watchlist, student-athletes must have been previously recognized for their outstanding field hockey abilities within the past two year. (NFHCA All-Region, NFHCA All-American, All-Conference, Nexus Championship selection, AAU Junior Olympic Games selection, NCAA All-Tournament Team, and/or U.S. National or International Team roster) and the student-athlete's head coach must be an active NFHCA member.

Empire 8 Student-Athletes Honored


SUNY Brockport
Allison Greene, So., F, Windsor, NY/Windsor - Greene, an All-Empire 8 third team selection, led the Golden Eagles in goals (10), assists, (7) and points (27) during the 2024 season.

SUNY Geneseo
Shannon Cunningham, Sr., M, Poughquag, NY/Arlington - Cunningham, a 2024 All-Empire 8 third team selection, had three goals and eight assists on the season. In the defensive end, she had two defensive saves. 

Ella Grieco, Jr., F, New Hartford, NY/New Hartford - Grieco, an All-Empire 8 and NFHCA All-Region selection, tied for the league lead with 16 goals last season and added four assists for 36 points, which was second in the league. She had four multiple-goal games, including at hat-trick at Skidmore.

Ava Harman, So., F, Putnam Valley, NY/Putnam Valley - Harman was a 2024 All-Empire 8 third team selection. She was a top contributor on the offense last season with five goals and three assists. 

Sam Lewis, Sr., M, East Rochester, NY/East Rochester - Lewis earned All-Empire 8 first team and NFHCA All-Region second team honors in E8 debut last season, Lewis, who was also named 2024 Empire 8 Championship Tournament Most Valuable Player, was third in points for the Knights tallying 32 points on 10 goals with a league-high 12 assists. 

Sara O'Donnell, Jr., M, Lancaster, NY/Lancaster - O'Donnell was a 2024 All-Empire 8 third team selection. She had two goals on the season and took 10 shots on goal. 

Russell Sage College
Cheyenne Zobel, Jr., M, Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa - Zobel earned All-Empire 8 third team accolades in 2024 after leading Russell Sage with 15 points on five goals and five assists. 

St. John Fisher University
Mary Kate McPhee, Jr., M, Salem, NY/Salem - McPhee earned All-Empire 8 second team honors in 2023. In 2024, she had 14 points with five goals and four assists. Two of her goals were game-winners

Alison Taplin, So., D, London, United Kingdom/Kingsdale Foundation School - Taplin earned All-Empire 8 second team honors in her debut season, recording one assist on the season with two defensive saves.
