SUNY Cortland, the defending Empire 8 Champion, is ranked No. 10 and SUNY Brockport is receiving votes in the 2025
D3football.com preseason poll. The D3football.com Top-25 is voted on by a panel of 25 coaches, Sports Information Directors and media members from across the country, and is published weekly. Points are awarded on a 25-24-23-22-etc. basis.
The Red Dragons won their sixth Empire 8 title in 2024 while SUNY Brockport finished second in the conference.
Cortland closed the season with a 11-1 record. The Red Dragons earned themselves a bye in the first round of the NCAA's and got a win over Endicott 17-9 in the second round. They finished their season in the third round after a loss to Springfield.
Brockport closed out their 2024 season with an 8-3 record. They were selected for ECAC's where they beat the University of Rochester 42-23.
The 2025 regular season for all seven Empire 8 institutions begins Sept. 4 and concludes on Nov. 15. League play begins right on Saturday, September 27 with Cortland at Morrisville. On Nov. 15. Cortland will play Ithaca, who is also receiving votes, in the annual Cortaca Jug. The 2025 Empire 8 champion receives an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Championship.
